Frequently Asked Dentistry Questions

In addition to taking great care of your teeth, our team is also happy to answer any questions you might have about dentistry so you and your loved ones can enjoy healthy smiles for a lifetime to come. In our experience, the higher a patient’s dental IQ, the healthier they are! That’s why we’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions we receive below. Be sure to give us a call if you would like to know anything else—we’re always eager to talk to you!

When should I go to the dentist?

If you’re not experiencing any issues with your teeth, then we recommend attending at least two checkup and cleaning appointments each year. This will allow our team to keep a close eye on your dental health and address any problems as soon as they pop up, saving you from needing more involved procedures down the road. However, if you’re dealing with any pain or dysfunction, it’s best to schedule an appointment right away.

Can I bring my child to New Haven Dental Group?

Of course! We’ve been open for so long that many of our child patients are now bringing their own children to see us! Here, toddlers, teenagers, and everyone in between can get the age-appropriate and friendly dental care they need to enjoy healthy, problem-free smiles year after year.

Is there a way to straighten my teeth other than metal braces?

Yes, and it’s called Invisalign®. Instead of brackets and wires, a patient simply has to wear a progressive series of clear plastic aligner trays to straighten their teeth. They are practically invisible when worn, and patients can even take the trays off whenever they want to eat or brush. Now, you can get the smile you’ve always wanted without sacrificing your daily appearance in the process. To see if you’d be a good fit for this treatment, contact us today!

I have a toothache—what should I do?

If the pain in your tooth is minor, start by rinsing and flossing around it. Sometimes, a dull toothache can just be the result of a piece of food being stuck between the teeth. However, if this doesn’t help, or if the pain is particularly bad, go ahead and give New Haven Dental Group a call. We’ll schedule an appointment to see you right away so we can relieve your pain and fix your tooth quickly.

Will you accept my dental insurance?

New Haven Dental Group is happy to accept and file dental insurance claims regardless of your provider. We currently participate with plans provided by Anthem, Delta Dental, Cigna, Guardian, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and MetLife to name a few. Give us a call to learn how we can use your specific plan to help you save!

How can I pay less for my dental care if I don’t have insurance?

At New Haven Dental Group, patients without insurance have two excellent options to make paying for their care easier. You can either sign up for a low-to-no interest financing plan through CareCredit, or you can join something called the Essential Dental Plan. With it, one flat fee will give you access to significant discounts on a wide variety of dental services without the typical hassles of traditional insurance. You can learn more about each of these on our New Patients page.
