Most people are busy in the summertime. You may plan to go on vacation, catch up on household projects, and more. However, you may want to add one more thing to your summer to-do list: wisdom teeth extractions. In this article, we will discuss why this season may be the best time to undergo this important procedure and how you can plan your treatment so it disrupts your life as little as possible.

Visit Your Dentist for a Consultation

If your dentist has previously recommended that you get your wisdom teeth removed, you may simply be able to call their office and schedule your procedure. However, if you are unsure if you need to have these teeth extracted, schedule a checkup with your dentist. They will examine all of your teeth, including your wisdom teeth, and give you their professional opinion on what you should do. If your wisdom teeth are not causing any problems, and they are not likely to do so in the near future, you may be able to retain them. However, if there are signs of trouble, or if you want to get them removed as a purely precautionary measure, your dentist will start planning the extraction surgery.

Preparing for Your Surgery

If you are on vacation from work or school this summer, you will not need to worry about keeping up with homework or work assignments while you recover from your oral surgery. Rather, you can use that time to enjoy some rest and relaxation. Before your procedure, stock up on soft foods. Applesauce, smoothies, and even ice cream (without any hard candies or nuts in it) are all good choices. You could also pick out a few movies or books that you would like to enjoy while you are on the mend.

You also need to ask a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment, particularly if you plan to be sedated. Since many people have time off during the summer, it should be fairly easy for you to find a driver to help you out.

Your Recovery Time

Your wisdom teeth extraction procedure should not take a big chunk out of your summer vacation. Most people are able to resume their normal routine within 7 – 10 days. If you experience any problems or have any concerns during your recovery period, reach out to your dentist. They want you to get back to feeling your best as soon as possible so you can go out and enjoy all that summertime has to offer.

Have you been putting off needed wisdom teeth extractions? This summer may be the perfect time for you to get this important procedure taken care of.
